Privacy policy

Summary

Our calculators run in your browser. You don’t need an account, and the numbers you type into a calculator never leave your device. The only personal information we receive directly is what you choose to send us through the contact form or by email. We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are useful; it uses cookies as described below. We plan to show ads from Google AdSense. When we do, Google and its partners may use cookies as described below, Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland get analytics and advertising cookies only with their consent.

What information do we collect?

Information you send us

If you use the contact form or email us, we receive your name, email address, the topic you pick and your message. The form is handled by a small script on our own web server at Hostinger, which emails the message to our inbox. No outside form service sees it. The email also includes your IP address, browser type and the time you sent it, so we can spot abuse. We use this information only to reply and to keep a record of corrections. We keep messages for up to 24 months, then delete them, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.

To stop spam, the form script counts how many messages come from each connection in an hour. It stores only a one-way hash of the IP address, not the address itself, and deletes each count after about an hour.

Calculator inputs

Pet weights, ages, dates and other values you type into a calculator are processed in your browser with JavaScript. They aren’t sent to us and we don’t store them.

Saved preferences (local storage)

If you switch a calculator between pounds and kilograms, your browser remembers that choice using local storage on your device (key: mpm-weight-unit). It isn’t sent to us. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.

Hosting and technical data

The site is hosted on Hostinger. Like most hosts, Hostinger processes standard technical data such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

We use Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google, to understand how many people visit, which pages and calculators they use, and how they found the site. This helps us decide what to improve and write next. Google Analytics collects:

• the pages you view, when, and for how long, and the page that referred you (for example a search engine)
• basic interactions such as scrolling, clicks on links to other sites, and file downloads
• device and browser information, such as device type, operating system, browser, screen size and language
• your approximate location (country, region or city), which Google works out from your IP address
• a random identifier stored in a cookie, so repeat visits and sessions can be counted

IP addresses. Google uses your IP address to send you the page data and to estimate your location. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.

Cookies. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies named _ga (to tell visitors apart) and _ga_<ID> (to keep session state). By default they last up to 2 years, though browsers may delete them sooner.

What we don’t send. We don’t send the numbers you type into calculators, your name, your email address or other information that directly identifies you to Google Analytics. We only see aggregated reports, not individual visitors.

Your choices. You can block or delete cookies in your browser, or install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland are covered by the consent rules in the section below. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy; see also how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Does this site use cookies?

The site itself doesn’t need cookies to work. Google Analytics sets the analytics cookies described above (for visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland, only after consent). When advertising is enabled, Google and its partners may also set advertising cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

Google AdSense and third-party advertising

When Google AdSense is active on MyPetMath:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
• You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com), which is now part of My Ad Center.
• You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
• Other ad technology partners that Google works with may also set cookies. Where they offer an opt-out, you can use it on their sites.

Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland

For visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, our Google tag uses Google Consent Mode with analytics and advertising storage switched off by default. Until you consent, Google Analytics doesn’t set or read its cookies and no advertising cookies are used. Google may still receive limited, cookieless signals (for example that a page was viewed, with your browser type and approximate location) so it can estimate overall traffic without identifying you across visits. If you consent, the cookies described above are used, and you can withdraw consent at any time through the privacy settings link in the consent message.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we will show a consent message from a Google-certified consent management platform (integrated with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework) before analytics cookies, or advertising cookies for personalized ads, are used. You can accept, decline or manage your choices, and change them later through the privacy settings link the message provides. If you don’t consent, Google may show limited or non-personalized ads.

What are my rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR?

For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the data controller is Malik Khurram, who runs MyPetMath. You can reach us at the contact details at the end of this policy.

• Why we use your data (legal basis). Replying to your message and keeping a record of corrections: our legitimate interest in running the site and answering you. Spam and abuse protection, and hosting logs: our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure. Google Analytics: your consent for analytics cookies (for other visitors, our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used). Personalized advertising cookies: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time through the privacy settings link in the consent message.
• Your rights. You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, restrict or object to how we use it, and receive a copy in a portable format. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
• Transfers. Our host and Google may process data outside your country, including in the United States. They use safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

We reply to requests within one month.

Your US state privacy rights

Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon and other states with consumer privacy laws), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold, to ask us to correct or delete it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising. We don’t sell the information you send us. When ads are enabled, we’ll offer a privacy choices link so you can opt out of personalized ads, and we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals where the law requires it. To make a request, use the contact page and choose “Privacy request”. We may need to confirm the request comes from you, and we won’t treat you differently for using these rights.

Children’s privacy

MyPetMath is written for adult pet owners. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and the site isn’t directed to children.

What choices do I have?

• Control cookies in your browser settings.
• Opt out of Google Analytics on all websites with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
• Opt out of personalized Google ads at adssettings.google.com and many other vendors at aboutads.info/choices.
• Ask us to access or delete a message you sent through the contact page.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. No method of sending or storing data online is perfectly secure, so please don’t send sensitive personal or financial details through the contact form.

Changes to this policy

We’ll update this policy as the site changes, for example when ads are switched on or we change how we use analytics. The “Last updated” date above changes when we do.
