Which sources do we use?

We start with the most authoritative source we can find, in roughly this order:

1. Veterinary references and guidelines: the Merck Veterinary Manual, AAHA, WSAVA and AAFP guidelines.
2. University veterinary schools and hospitals, such as Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
3. Peer-reviewed studies (for example, published growth standards for dogs).
4. Established veterinary hospital groups and organizations such as VCA, the AKC and the ASPCA, for practical guidance.

We don’t use other calculator websites as sources. Every tool and guide lists its sources, with links where they’re available.

How do we build and check calculators?

• Each formula is written once in code and used everywhere: the calculator, the step-by-step walkthrough, the tables and charts.
• Every formula has automated tests with known answers before a page goes live.
• Where sources disagree or evidence is thin, we say so on the page and show a range.
• Where we’ve had to estimate (for example, extending puppy growth curves to giant breeds), the page says so.

How do we write?

We put the answer first, use plain language and short paragraphs, and explain any technical term the first time it appears. We avoid hype and never promise health outcomes. Every page tells you when to talk to your vet.

Who writes and reviews content?

Malik Khurram researches, writes and builds everything on the site and is not a veterinarian. We don’t claim vet reviews that haven’t happened. If a licensed veterinarian reviews a page, we’ll name them and the date on that page.

How do we handle updates and corrections?

We review each page at least once a year, and sooner when a key guideline changes. When we correct a factual error, we fix it promptly and update the “Last updated” date. Found something wrong? Tell us.

How are ads kept separate?

Advertisers have no say in our content or results. Ads will be clearly labeled “Advertisement” and never placed inside a calculator or between the inputs and the result. We don’t currently use affiliate links; if we start, we’ll disclose them.

Do we use AI tools?

We may use software tools, including AI writing and coding assistants, to help draft and check content and code. A person checks every formula against its source and reviews every page before it’s published, and is responsible for what appears on the site.
