Why does this site exist?

Pet owners ask simple questions (“how much should I feed my dog?”, “how old is my cat in human years?”) and usually get a vague answer or a single number with no explanation. Vets and veterinary textbooks do have good formulas for these questions. They’re just not easy to find or use at home.

MyPetMath puts those formulas into quick calculators. Every tool shows the formula, walks through the math with real numbers, gives a range instead of false precision and links to its sources. If you want to check our work, you can.

Who runs MyPetMath?

I’m Malik Khurram. I research and build the calculators and write the guides. For each tool, I start from veterinary references such as the Merck Veterinary Manual, AAHA and WSAVA guidelines, university veterinary schools and peer-reviewed studies, then turn the method into code and test it against worked examples.

To be clear about what I’m not: I’m not a veterinarian, and nothing on this site is veterinary advice. The calculators give estimates for healthy pets. They can’t examine your pet, and they don’t replace your vet. If a licensed vet reviews a page in the future, that page will say so and name them. Until then, no page claims a vet review.

How are the calculators built?

  • Sourced formulas. Each tool uses a published method, listed on its page and on our methodology page.
  • One source of truth. The numbers you see, the step-by-step walkthrough and the charts all come from the same code, so they can’t disagree.
  • Tested. Every formula has automated tests with known answers, such as a 50 lb dog’s resting energy of about 725 kcal a day.
  • Honest ranges. Where the science is uncertain, we show a range and say why.

How does the site make money?

The site is free to use. We plan to show ads from Google AdSense to cover costs. Ads never change a calculator result, and we don’t place them inside or next to the calculators. We don’t currently use affiliate links. If that changes, we’ll add a disclosure page and label those links.
